Erin go bragh, y'all! Alabama's 3 most Irish counties - al.com (blog)

If you're looking for the luck of the Irish, you may want to head to Cullman County.

Cullman County - best known for its Oktoberfest celebration of Bavarian heritage - boasts the highest percentage of those with Irish heritage in Alabama, according to new data from real estate site Trulia.

Using data from the American Community Survey, Trulia said 12.4 percent of the population in Cullman County report Irish as their "primary ancestry." That's the highest amount in the state and one of only three Alabama counties above 10 percent.

The other two are Cleburne (11.4 percent) and Clay (10.4 percent) counties.

Other notable percentages include:

Shelby County - 8.4 percent

Mobile County - 6.8 percent

Baldwin County - 8 percent

Madison County - 6.6 percent

Jefferson County - 5.6 percent

Montgomery County - 2.8 percent

And the most Irish area in the country? That would be the Boston metro area, where more than 25 percent list "Irish" as their main heritage.
