The 27th annual Kids’ Choice Awards was the biggest and most memorable show yet! After all, there were 20,000 gallons of slime. Need we say more? Read on for all of the highlights, including Selena Gomez’s beautiful acceptance speech — and a whole lot of green slime.
We never thought we’d see Mark Wahlberg be so playful, but we guess that’s part of the gig when you decide to host the Kids’ Choice Awards! He did a way better job than we could have ever expected, and the 20,000 gallons of slime at the KCAs were definitely put to good use. Read on for all the highlights from the 2014 Kids’ Choice Awards, including a transcript of Selena’s beautiful acceptance speech for Favorite Female Singer!
Kaley Cuoco Getting Slimed, Selena Gomez’s Acceptance Speech: Highlights Of The 2014 Kids’ Choice Awards
1. We have to admit that we assumed Mark’s t-shirt-and-jeans combo was only supposed to last for about five minutes before he’d get slimed and then he’d change into a more appropriate outfit. But, the KCAs were full of surprises! At the top of the show, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Pharrell Williams taunted Mark for his so-called unslimeability — and Mark was right (at the time), because Kaley got slimed instead! Not only was it actually unexpected, but, well… Kaley’s awards show looks are usually killer, but this one was not so much. The slime needed to happen. (Sorry, Rebecca Minkoff. Can’t win ‘em all.)
2. When Selena Gomez accepted the award for Favorite Female Singer, she gave such a beautiful acceptance speech that she not only nearly made herself cry, but almost made us cry, too! Especially in light of all the recent drama surrounding her (namely: a rehab stint and Justin Bieber‘s general existence), it was so sweet to see her so happy about her award. Her full speech:
“Thank you so much. This has been such an amazing year already for me and I just have to say that you guys have been the most loyal, dedicated people in my life, because you continuously, every year, bless me with the opportunity to do what I love, so thank you so much. You guys are awesome, and this is for you. So, thank you.”

3. Cody Simpson and Austin Mahone got slimed simultaneously! KCA fans got to vote during the show on whether Cody, Austin, or both should get slimed. To be totally honest, we kind of expected the teen heartthrob with the worst publicist to lose (because who wants to get slimed?! Not us!), but nope! Both of the handsome boys got slimed! And did they ever. Truly, no one is safe at the Kids’ Choice Awards.
4. We loved seeing Mark Wahlberg finally getting slimed! OK, so it’s obvious that this was going to happen, but hey! The show is for kids! You think kids don’t like seeing grown men get slimed? We like seeing grown men get slimed! Kevin Hart, along with Mark’s kids, were in on the joke that saw a veritable river of slime fall from the ceiling onto Mark’s head. And if you’re not a Mark Wahlberg fan? Well, just think about how he’s going to be cleaning green slime from behind his ears for the next century or so.
