The Chicago Blackhawks host the Los Angeles Kings tonight with the New York Rangers awaiting the winner in the Stanley Cup Final.
The Kings have won two Game 7s on the road this postseason and road teams are 5-1 overall. The Blackhawks are looking to complete a comeback from a 3-1 series deficit.
USA TODAY Sports staffers make their predictions:
Kevin Allen, Blackhawks
The Blackhawks have regained the momentum in this series and they were in this position last year when they rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to take down the Detroit Red Wings. The key in this game will be the Anze Kopitar-Jonathan Toews matchup. If Kopitar has a big game, the Kings can win. Otherwise, take the Blackhawks to win 4-2.
Mike Brehm, Blackhawks
Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville looks like a genius for putting together the Patrick Kane-Andrew Shaw-Brandon Saad line in Game 5. The Kings have not been able to shut them down and the Blackhawks will be able to get the matchup they want because they have the last line change tonight. The Kings’ Marian Gaborik, Justin Williams and Mike Richards are a combined 18-0 in Game 7s, and Williams is Mr. Game 7 with 12 points in six games. But the Blackhawks seem to have the recent edge in the series. Pick them as 4-3 winners.
Jimmy Hascup, Blackhawks
Patrick Kane is an explosive scorer, the kind that can carry a team, and him finding his game – two goals, seven points over last three contests – is bad news for the Kings. The goalie battle has not been as lopsided as expected: Crawford (.884 save percentage) and Quick (.886) have been equally bad in this series, so that is a toss-up. It sounds lazy to use “momentum” as a factor here, but the Blackhawks have it now. They’ve won two in a row to tie this series and are at home, where they are 8-1 in the postseason and 27-7-7 in the regular season. Chicago advances to the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-2 win.
Kristen Shilton, Kings
The Blackhawks clawed their way back into this series on gutsy play from Corey Crawford and Patrick Kane, but the Kings are king of elimination games and they will topple the champs 4-3 in overtime to advance.
