'True Blood' Premiere: H-Vamps Create Mayhem; A Shocking Death - Hollywood Life

The final season of ‘True Blood’ is upon us, and the June 22 episode opens immediately after the events of the Season 6 finale, where a shocking death will leave loyal viewers reeling! Full recap below.

True Blood‘s seventh and final season premiered on June 22, and it opened with a bang. “Jesus Gonna Be Here” opened immediately after the events of the Season 6 finale, at the human/vampire social outside Bellefleur’s just as a horde of H-vamps descended upon them. It went about as well as you might expect, and a totally shocking, major character death is sure to leave loyal viewers reeling. Meanwhile, Adilyn and Jessica develop their friendship, we meet James 2.0, Sookie is blamed for anything and everything, and Jason and Violet have a relationship talk — of sorts. Full recap below!

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Tara Dies; Arlene, Holly And Nicole Are Taken

With a horde of infected vampires surrounding Bellefleur’s at the human/vampire social (the literal worst idea on the planet), it getes pretty grim. Kevin (John Rezig) is pulled from his cop car, Nicole (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) is taken away, as are Holly and Arlene, Sam shifts into a dog out in the open in an attempt to chase after them, and then all of a sudden the infected vampires zip away as if called, mission completed.

The camera pans to Lettie Mae (Adina Porter), who is sobbing, holding the vampire goo formerly known as Tara (Rutina Wesley) in her arms! Well, that came out of nowhere. She may have been protecting her mother and everything, but that was so unceremonious and so unbefitting to her character! Not to mention to the actress, who, let’s be real, has not always been dealt a solid hand with the writing on this show.

Bailey Noble On Major Death In ‘True Blood’ Premiere: ‘Nobody Is Safe’

Jason (Ryan Kwanten) calls Andy (Chris Bauer) at the Bellefleur house to let him know that Holly (Lauren Bowles) has been kidnapped, and he insists that Adilyn (Bailey Noble) stay inside, and that Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), who has been lying in wait outside, not be invited in. I think we can guarantee that both of those things are going to happen.

In Bellefleur’s, Sookie (Anna Paquin) is overwhelmed by everyone’s negative thoughts — a lot of which are blaming Sookie for Tara’s death, and for the disappearances. It’s difficult to really blame them for blaming her.

Meanwhile, Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire) convinces Lettie Mae — a recovering alcoholic — to drink some of her blood in order to heal herself. This should go super well!

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Trouble In Werewolf/Fae Paradise

The boys make plans to find a vampire nest, and everyone is snapping at each other. Sookie, still reading everyone’s thoughts, pings on Alcide (Joe Manganiello): “If she’d only walked away, we wouldn’t be in this mess right now.” Trouble in paradise already? Sookie storms off.

Inside Bellefleur’s, we properly meet Vince (Brett Rickaby), who was Sam’s rival for the mayoral race. He rushes up to Sam and is like, um, hi, you were a dog like, one second ago? Sam cops to it pretty quickly, insisting that the people of Bon Temps would lose their damn minds if they found out. I feel like this will become a problem for Sam — he really should have opted for denial.

Alcide goes all “Bug A Boo” on Sookie’s phone, and she throws it into the forest, which is a heavily dramatic way to decline a phone call. Smartphones are expensive, girl! Would that we could all throw our phones away when we saw something on it that we didn’t like! She trips, and falls upon a dead body. She just kinda looks at it, disgruntled, and walks away. Oh, just another dead body, no big deal. What is up with this town?

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Pam Searches For Eric, Adilyn Proves That Bad Decision-Making May Be A Fae Trait

In other, more exotic locales, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) is on the hunt for her maker! Eric’s return is a plotline I think we can all get behind.

Back to Bad Decisions, Louisiana, Adilyn, doing almost exactly what Andy doesn’t want her to do, opens a window to have a heart-to-heart with Jessica about how she should hate her, but she can’t. Then they start girl-talkin’, and it’s pretty cute, if not super weird considering the fact that Jessica literally murdered Adilyn’s sisters. But hey, water under the bridge, right?

Suddenly, an H-vamp challenger for fairy blood appears in the distance — “Where is she?” “She’s mine!” Jessica snarls, not really seeming like she has the temptation for Adilyn’s blood under control. Adilyn is scared, possibly even by Jessica, who insists that she doesn’t want to hurt Adilyn, but her blood is pretty hard to resist.

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Sookie And Alcide Fight, James 2.0 Is Bisexual, And Lafayette Is Relieved By Tara’s Death

Over at Sookie’s house, it’s lover’s quarrel time! Sookie is pissed off at Alcide for his thoughts, Alcide is pissed off because she’s reading them, she’s pissed off because he’s not understanding her curse, and so on, and so forth. Normal couple stuff.

Jason and Violet pull into a potential nest and are met by Vince and co. — they are not happy to see them there and Violet makes with the threats. Violet’s protectiveness over Jason has them accusing Jason of being a fangbanger, and Jason is next level annoyed with her for it.

Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) and James 2.0 (Nathan Parsons) arrive at his place, and Lafayette reveals that he’s actually relieved by Tara’s death — he already grieved for her the first time around. James 2.0, I suppose in an attempt to get the viewers to connect with James’ recast, opens up about his draft-dodging days during the Vietnam war, and how all his friends had died there.

Interestingly, he hints that he’s bisexual, and had a relationship with his best friend Danny. When he went to pay his respects, Danny’s father beat James in the middle of the street for being a “hippy fa***t,” and and as he lay bleeding in the street, he was turned that night by a passing vampire who took pity on him.

And with that emotional moment over, it’s feeding time — James goes to town on Lafayette. There might be one or two (or three, or several) negative things you could say about True Blood, but you certainly can’t fault it for a lack of LGBT representation. Firmly on board with bisexual James! Also, he and Lafayette were totally flirting. Jessica, watch out — Lafayette’s gonna steal your man.

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Jason And Violet Have Sex On His Cop Car After A Fairly Problematic Discussion; Lettie Mae Is Losing Her Marbles

Meanwhile, Jason is still annoyed as hell with Violet. “You won’t let me f*** you, you won’t let me do my job, you f***ing feed on me every night; it’s bullsh**!” Not a charming moment for Jason. Violet doesn’t really owe him anything, but their fight has its intended effect — they do it on Jason’s cop car. Looks like he is a fangbanger! Not the first time, really.

Back at the Bellefleur house, Jessica is still trying to ward off the newcomer. She tries to get Adilyn to drink her blood so that Jessica will always know where Adilyn is, and will always be able to protect her, but Adilyn is still hesitant — but, come on, we all know she’ll do it.

Lettie Mae is actively losing her marbles after drinking vampire blood, and thinks that she can see Tara. Willa can’t bear to back to Tara’s, where she used to stay, and so she stays in Lettie Mae’s basement for the upcoming dawn. Easy access for Lettie Mae, fresh V addict!

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Alcide And Sookie Have Sex — It Doesn’t Seem Like The Right Time

Pam, wherever she is, is looking for Najat, whoever that is. A family offers her their child, the only child in North Africa with clean blood. Pam looks thirsty as hell but she passes — she wants information only. The man hands her a map of some kind, but Pam insists there must be a mistake “He would never–” “My information is accurate. What you do with it is your choice.” Where’s Eric?!

Sookie and Alcide seem to have recovered from their argument — they enter the bone zone. I’ll never be mad at seeing Alcide in his altogether, but this really doesn’t seem like the time while everybody else is searching for the H-vamp nest. Frankly, daytime seems the perfect time to do it.

Speaking of nest-searching, Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Andy find an abandoned nest — humans hung upside down — and wind up running into Vince and his traveling band, who want to shoot Bill dead. These guys are everywhere. Andy stops them, is labeled a sympathizer, and will probably have a target on his back from these loonies moving forward.

‘True Blood’ Premiere: The H-Vamps Are Holed Up At Fangtasia, OBVIOUSLY, And Adilyn Drinks Jessica’s Blood, OBVIOUSLY

Over at the H-vamp nest, it’s pretty grim. Holly, Arlene, and the rest are chained up in the basement of Fangtasia. I am shocked that no one has thought to check there. It is literally a place where vampires congregate. The deputy – one of five left in Bon Temps, he oh-so-helpfully points out when informing his fellow prisoners that they’re doomed — is the not-so-lucky next victim.

Andy and Bill have a heart-to-heart, and really, it doesn’t seem like the time. Bill thanks him, but Andy wants Bill to know that he is not forgiven. Is anybody with me on being on Andy’s side? He literally just doesn’t want any more of his family dying.

At the Bellefleur abode, Jessica is waiting out the H-vamp — dawn is coming, and they’re both starting to fry. Adilyn does exactly what we all knew she would do — invites Jessica in. She rushes in, holding Adilyn in her arms, and it looks pretty intimate until it beomces clear that Jessica is approximately point-five seconds away from tearing her throat out. However, the H-vamp burns on the Bellefleur front porch, and Jessica zips up to the attic.

‘True Blood’ Premiere: Lettie Mae Blames Sookie For Tara’s Death — Is She Right?

The next morning, Sookie arrives at church, and she is not welcome. “It’s your fault my baby’s dead,” Lettie Mae tells Sookie, which opens her mind to everyone’s negative thoughts. However, Sookie gives them sh** for being such negative cowards — at least Lettie Mae had the decency to say it to her face. She implores Sam, Andy and the rest to just let her help — who knows more about vampires than her?

That certainly was a lot to digest. What do you think about the way Tara’s death was handled? Not only was it quick, but it felt swept under the rug, as well. Furthermore, it seems a lost cause to even wonder about it at this point, but will the people of Bon Temps ever sort their priorities? Why are they so resistant to being What do you think about Adilyn’s budding friendship with Jessica? And will the townspeople ever think to check the most obvious place on earth for their missing loved ones? Let us know!
