Thursday morning's awkward and uncomfortable interview with the 13-year-old Gosselin twin daughters on the “Today” show was all just a case of stage fright, says mom Kate Gosselin.
The former reality star, who accompanied Mady and Cara on the interview with co-host Savannah Guthrie, tweeted that the girls' sudden silence — after they'd just done a huge People magazine story with their mom — wasn't a big deal at all.\
"Thanks to @TODAYshow for having Cara, Mady and me on the show today! 1st live interview can render even the gabbiest girls speechless :)" she tweeted Thursday.

She later added they were "so excited but caught off guard by live tv!" While supporters chimed in to back up Gosselin and her parenting decisions — "Your girls r beautiful..@13 nothing prepares us 4 our nerves when they takeover..Your (sic) a GREAT mom 2 always have their backs:)" tweeted @sammysgmom — there were also a fair share of haters voicing concerns.
Twitter user @Chriistiina_A tweeted back to Kate, "and you could tell they were scared of saying the wrong thing, that's why they kept looking at you!" But Kate responded: "there were no right or wrong answers.... They just had a case of 'stage fright' #notactors."
The twins' dad, Jon Gosselin, was also in the concerned camp. In a statement to E! News, the now-restaurant waiter and cabin-dweller said he was "heartbroken watching my children on TV this morning. If Kate wants to do interviews, fine, but it is completely inappropriate for Kate to try to use our children as her mouthpiece.
"They need to be in school, playing sports, and going to the mall with friends, not giving interviews on national television," he continued. "I love my kids and want the best for them. Hopefully, after today, Kate will think twice before subjecting them to this again. I desperately hope she realizes they need to be free to live a normal life, away from the cameras."
