Brooks Wheelan says he was fired from 'Saturday Night Live' after one season - New York Daily News

"Saturday Night Live" cast member Brooks Wheelan has been fired after just one season on the show, he announced Monday.

"Had a blast and loved every second of it," Wheelan, 27, wrote on Twitter.

"I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

Wheelan was one of six new hires to the "SNL" lineup last year and made frequent appearances on "Weekend Update" with Colin Jost.

"Saturday Night Live" declined to comment on Wheelan's reported departure, a rep for the show told the Daily News, saying it will not comment on "casting rumors or changes."

Like Robert Downey Jr., Billy Crystal and Jenny Slate before him, who were all fired from "SNL" after one season, Wheelan's departure may lead to future opportunities. He has already gotten support from director Judd Apatow on Twitter.

"@brookswheelan you will have the Robert Downey Jr. post SNL career! (minus the painful drug addiction)," Apatow wrote. "Rock on friend!"

Wheelan responded saying he would be taking this time to "formally submit myself for the Ironman reboot in 2021 and the Chaplin reboot in 2032."

It was also rumored that Nasim Pedrad, who has famously impersonated Kim Kardashian on the late-night sketch comedy show, will be leaving to star on Fox sitcom "Mulaney."
