Detroit Lions announce community focused approach to Thanksgiving halftime ... - detroitlions.com

DETROIT– The Detroit Lions have announced a community focused approach for halftime of their traditional Thanksgiving Day game November 28, 2013 against the Green Bay Packers. The Thanksgiving halftime will kick off the NFL’s Week 13 celebration of the NFL PLAY 60 initiative and go beyond just music on the field to the team’s reach in the community.

The Lions, United Way, Playworks and their community partners collaborated on Meet Up and Eat Up with the Lions throughout September and October. Their efforts helped educate Detroit Public School children and the community about the importance of active play and eating fresh fruits and vegetables and their accessibility within the city.

FOX, who is broadcasting the game nationally, will air a vignette at halftime featuring Meet Up and Eat Up with the Lions.

“Civic responsibility is something we take very seriously,” said Tom Lewand, Detroit Lions Team President. “Displaying our efforts to improve health and wellness to a national audience is a great opportunity to leverage the value of the Lions and the NFL to raise awareness for a cause that impacts not just Detroit, but communities across the nation.”

In-stadium entertainment will feature a performance of “Never Gonna Let You Go” by Michigan native singer/songwriter Tony Lucca. The program will also include the Walled Lake Central marching band, hundreds of other Detroit area youth and a “One Detroit, One Pride” card stunt sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. During the halftime performance, fans will be encouraged to get up and move in keeping with the message of NFL PLAY 60. Additional in-stadium elements include: all fans receiving Lions PLAY 60-branded eye black and 11 PLAY 60 youth ambassadors running from the tunnel prior to player introductions.

Lucca was a finalist for the hit music competition series The Voice in 2012. In June he returned to the show to perform his current single, “Never Gonna Let You Go.”

On July 16, Lucca released With the Whole World Watching via mentor and former Voice coach, Adam Levine’s 222 Records. Nearly two weeks later he kicked off the With the Whole World Watching tour in Spring Lake, MI, and went on to open for Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson in September as part of their latest tour.

Lucca’s career in show business has spanned more than 20 years and includes eight albums. He got his start as a cast member for Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club (1991-95). For more information, go to http://www.tonylucca.com.
