Miranda Fugate, aka ‘Shovel Girl,’ became an Internet sensation when a Vine video of her friend slamming her in the head with a shovel went viral on May 5. Now a new report is claiming that Miranda died after the vicious shovel attack — but is it just another death hoax? Here’s what we know.

Shovel Girl Dead? — Vine Sensation Miranda Fugate Victim Of Death Hoax
Call off the “Shovel Girl” memorial — we’re happy to report that Miranda is alive and well!
The website Huzlers.com, which is notorious for starting death hoaxes, published a fake story titled, “Miranda, 16, Who Was Hit In The Head With A Shovel, Dies.”
The report read:
Miranda Fugate Lockwood died of serious head injuries after being hit with a shovel in the head by an old friend of hers named Emily Powers. The whole thing was caught on video and posted all over the internet and generated around 500,000 video views in just 2 days … At first, It only seemed like a minor head injury as Miranda also temporarily lost one ear’s hearing. Suddenly, while watching ‘Mean Girls’ at home that same day, Miranda collapsed and died instantly. Doctors are saying she died of severe head trauma.
Thankfully, Miranda herself took to Twitter to dispell the death hoax, tweeting:

Girl Hit With Shovel Vine Video Goes Viral
The Vine video that went viral on May 5 originated from a longer, eight-minute YouTube clip of the two girls planning an elaborate fight and then beginning to pull each other’s hair and slap and punch each other. The fight comes to a head — literally — when Emily grabs a shovel and smashes Miranda right in the back of her head with it!
The Vine video ends there but anyone who saw the longer YouTube clip would know that Miranda survived the shovel attack. The teen is shown laying on the ground, wailing, “I can’t hear! I can’t hear! I beat her ass, though, so it’s okay.” Plus, the next day, Miranda and two friends posted another Vine video in which she joked, “I think I need another shovel.”
