Caroline Wozniacki ended her silence about her breakup with Rory McIlroy, giving her former fiancee a dig over the football teams they root for and getting a cyberhug of support from Serena Williams.
McIlroy announced the “conscious uncoupling” on Wednesday, days after the wedding invitations had been mailed, and spoke emotionally about it at a press conference before a golf tournament. Wozniacki, whose status for the French Open is in doubt because of a knee injury, tweeted Thursday morning:
Wozniacki is a Liverpool fan and McIlroy roots for Manchester United, something they’d exchanged tweets about ever since they started dating. Last March, she tweeted:

McIlroy on Wednesday acknowledged the difficulty of resuming their golf and tennis careers so quickly and so publicly.
“I’m not going to lie. It’s going to be very difficult,” McIlroy said at the BMW PGA Championship in England. “But you know, at least when I get inside the ropes, just try and concentrate on the shot at hand. But, yeah, it’s obviously going to be difficult.”
