SACRAMENTO -
If you thought the people shopping on Christmas Eve were procrastinating, there were still some people getting last minute shopping done on Christmas Day.
“Stores Open on Christmas” was the number one phrase people searched for on Google Wednesday morning. At the Walgreens on Fruitridge Road near Freeport Boulevard, it was easy to see why.
There was a steady stream of customers, including Sharne Sandoval. She said shopping on Christmas beat shopping on most other days. She said, “Any other day, you’re running into people, people are fighting over stuff – it’s less of a hassle to come today.”
She also said the prices and variety of toys were just as good as any other day.
For some people on Wednesday, the late Christmas shopping was their only option.
Esau Bake said he didn’t get paid until last Saturday, so last minute shopping for his son was his only option. He tried five other stores before finding Walgreens open.
For others, it wasn’t money that made the last minute trip a necessity, but a new life.
Geoffrey Hatcher, a new dad, said, “We came in to get new supplies for our baby boy, we got him as an early Christmas gift.”
Many CVS stores were open until 8 p.m. Wednesday with a few open 24-hours. Most Walgreens stores were open until 6 p.m., with a few open 24-hours as well.
