Before you stuff on Thanksgiving, consider taking in Turkey Trot 2013 at the ... - OregonLive.com

Turkey. Stuffing. Mashed potatoes. Gravy. Cranberry sauce. Green beans. Cheese-stuffed celery. Olives. Pickles. Rolls. Pumpkin pie. Pecan pie. Mince pie. Whoooaaa!

Before all that on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, how 'bout burning some calories at the Oregon Road Runners Club's annual Turkey Trot for runners and walkers of all ages?

The event benefits a good cause other than your waistline and cardiovascular health: It helps fund animal care and programs at the Oregon Zoo.

The 4-mile fun run and fitness walk begin at 8 a.m. at the World Forestry Center; the half-mile Tot Trot starts at 9:45 a.m. The events finish inside the zoo, near the concert amphitheater.

What's not allowed: pets and roller skates.

What is allowed: Participants with strollers or child-carrier backpacks may only take part in the 4-mile walk and they must start at the back of the group.

What's recommended: Riding MAX to the Washington Park light-rail station, because parking is limited.

Register and learn more online.

Now, back to all that food ... the roadrunners club plans to provide snacks; participants crossing the finish line will get a chocolate turkey; 100 randomly selected finishers will get pumpkin pies.
